Interesting that I actually find myself being self labeled and boxed in as one of the silent majority that was defined in the 60's. This whole occupy movement infuriates me as it seems so pointless and naive. Its one thing to be young and idealistic, and/or old and bitter, but this drive to become another socialist society where the government controls all and success (i.e. wealth) is evil is just beyond my understanding. These encampments look very much like the protests in Greece or other bankrupt socialist countries. Is that what we aspire to be?
As is the case with any society, things can always be improved but America's track record for growth, success and innovation takes a back seat to no one and this movement just seems bent on destroying it - much as a bookend to the obama apology tour that highlighted the start of his tenure.
Greed will always be with us and the super rich will be there as well. To attack the system, though, and want to undo it just seems crazy. I'd love to get a rational explanation of what's to be gained here.
As far as my own experience, I start to cringe when I hear criticism of how the "rich" are so much richer than they were 30 years ago. That's life, you fools! 30 years ago I was a few years out of college and just getting started. My earnings today are many times what they were then and so is my net worth. Am I a Robber Baron? Am I one of the evil "rich"? No. I'm just a normal guy who studied, saved, planned for the future, put kids through school, loves his wife and hopes that he can have a healthy and enjoyable retirement.
I'm the majority - not the 99% these nuts claim to represent. Just an ordinary guy that's been way to busy to gripe and moan. Doing, rather than complaining, is much more productive. It may just be that those like me will need to be a little less silent.
