And What Did They Occupy?

Interesting that just as I started to write, my iTunes kicked in Volunteers by The Jefferson Airplane.  Yes, the youth of America did take to the streets in the late 60's and early 70's and the old cliche that "it as different back then" is the statement of the day but Vietnam was a little different than a global recession.

Anyway, the Los Angeles Times, our very own liberal news outlet in L.A. has done of couple of "unbiased" news - not opinion - pieces on the now-ended occupy Los Angeles events.  The first was a photo montage on the things left behind by the folks who were there.  There were pictures of a teddy bear, some chemicals to ward off tear gas and some other signs of life that painted what appeared to be a sympathetic picture of people just having a good time out in a city park. Not shown was the mounds of trash, the gallons of human waste, the destruction of the park grounds and the defacing of so much property.

Likewise, the article today was a set of interviews of those that left, asking why and what they were there for.  In most cases, these were unemployed recent college graduates, a laid off bank clerk, a recent high school graduate, and a few older displaced persons.  They never really said what they wanted other than to have society changed so that their individual situations would, presumably, be improved.  One of the wonders of this "movement" is the complete inability of anyone to clearly state what they want in a rational manner.  Yeah, tear down the banks, the government and make all loans and corporations go away - yeah, that's a great platform to follow.

It was interesting that none of the homeless, the anarchists, the drug addicts and street people were interviewed.

All in all, its hard for me to see what they accomplished and, as a group or as individuals, they represented themselves very poorly.
