Well, now that the holidays are over and our sons have headed back to their homes, I can get back to a few comments on the year that was and look forward to the year to come.
Not really thrilled with the direction we're heading for this year - there is no Republican candidate worth a lick so we seem to be headed for another four years with obama.
So, how did we do this past year? Personally I can't complain. We all have our health, both my sons have jobs and their health, my wife and I both have jobs and our health, and, on top of that, all of us made more this year than last year. Being part of the 99% isn't so bad if you stop whining and simply carry on.
As far as the country, its still the economy, stupid, and its not a pretty picture. When you look at the statistics, its beyond the 8.5% unemployment rate - its the sheer number of people not working. From the records I've seen, we have about 6 million less people working now than when obama took office. And they're still blaming Bush. Likewise, as the government does cut back, we'll see more job losses as so many people either directly or indirectly work for the government. Just look at the latest news from Boeing about them closing their assembly plant in Wichita, Kansas due to the cancellation of military contracts. I guess he'll take credit for saving on the budget and not talk about the 2000 jobs that are going to be lost.
On the world stage, it was a good thing that we killed Bin Laden. obama does deserve some credit for not stopping the search. Likewise, he did keep to his promise and take more military action in Pakistan. They're now a little pissed but that's what we had to expect.
And, not being one to pass up a good fight, we did get involved in Libya for a while. And, while the soldiers are out of Iraq, we do have 15,000 contractors carrying guns there.
Comments on other things in days to come. Just needed to get back in the flow of things again. Let's pray for health and peace in 2012.
And, it would be nice to see obama lose but I'm not holding my breath.
